Dad had the most incredible memory of anyone known, and a wealth of history and information will be missed. He also worked for Knight and Winward Electric after retiring from the base.ĭad loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren! He enjoyed their visits so much and could sit and tell stories for hours. Don was employed at HAFB during those years maintaining electrical on aircraft. Don and Betty were blessed with 3 children, Dean, David and Karen who love him dearly. ![]() ![]() Dad has missed her terribly these last 4 years, and we know they are having a joyous reunion. He said he knew right then, “that’s the gal for me”! They were married Apand enjoyed 66 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2018. Dad tells the story that when he went to pick her up from a date, she was out front shoveling snow. He was one of the few surviving WWII veterans.ĭon met the love of his life, his “sweet, sweet Betty” when he returned home from the service. Dad also worked at the Ogden Arsenal where he would pack and ship war material.Īfter graduating from high school, Don enlisted in the Army Air Core and served for one year. At 14 he got a job doing dishes and peeling potatoes at Ross & Jack’s Café which was the #1 place to eat in Ogden. He would wait for newspapers to be printed and would sell them along Washington and down 25th St., even selling them in the bars. all the way to Ogden High each day.ĭon started working his first job when he was only 10 yrs. He often talked about walking from 31st below Wall Ave. Dad attended Pingree Elementary, Washington Jr. He grew up in what was considered Dutchtown in Ogden and lived within a block of most of his aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the 3rd of 4 boys and frequently talked about how close his family was. Don was born to Hino and Sitska Kap on July 20, 1928. Words cannot express the void in our lives with his passing. Dad was truly an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor. Don Edward Kap passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aug.
